Reconstructive Surgery
Restoring Natural Form and Function Through Expert Surgical Care
Experienced, compassionate care backed by decades of multidisciplinary collaboration
A Highly Individualized Approach for Each and Every Patient
Dr. Duffy’s reconstructive surgery practice grew naturally from his extensive experience in breast reconstruction. Over time, he became a trusted collaborator for complex soft tissue reconstruction cases across all areas of the body and all age groups—from newborns to the very elderly.
Each reconstructive case requires a highly individualized approach, taking into account the patient’s health, previous surgeries or radiation, and the location and extent of tissue loss. Many of these patients are quite ill, and their care demands precision, teamwork, and creativity.
Dr. Duffy frequently partners with orthopedic, oncologic, neurosurgical, pediatric, and cardiac specialists to develop comprehensive treatment plans that restore both form and function.
Lower Extremity Reconstruction
Dr. Duffy has performed extensive lower extremity reconstruction throughout his career. These complex cases may involve exposed hardware after orthopedic trauma, non-healing wounds following tumor removal, or tissue loss from diabetes or vascular disease.
Treatment often requires collaboration among orthopedic, vascular, and infectious disease specialists to optimize recovery and preserve limb function.
Dr. Duffy’s expertise in limb salvage ensures that every patient receives an honest assessment—whether reconstruction or amputation offers the best long-term result.

Upper Extremity Reconstruction
Upper extremity reconstruction is often needed after trauma, tumor removal, or complications from orthopedic surgery. Dr. Duffy works closely with orthopedic and vascular teams to restore hand and arm function and appearance.
Dr. Duffy collaborates frequently with Dallas Sarcoma Associates to deliver multidisciplinary care for patients with upper extremity soft tissue challenges.

Head & Neck Reconstruction
Soft tissue reconstruction of the head and neck often follows trauma, skin cancer excision, or infection. For patients with prior radiation or complex wounds, achieving durable, healthy coverage is essential to restore both appearance and protection.
Dr. Duffy’s goal is always to restore stable coverage while maintaining natural contours and vital function.
Complex and Multidisciplinary Reconstruction
Regardless of the patient’s age or condition, Dr. Duffy’s philosophy remains constant: each reconstructive challenge requires an individualized, anatomy-driven plan designed to achieve the best possible outcome.
Dr. Duffy collaborates with a wide range of specialists to address soft tissue defects throughout the body. His reconstructive expertise supports procedures involving:
Neurosurgery: Skull or plate exposure
Cardiac surgery: Sternal wound reconstruction after bypass
Gynecologic oncology: Perineal or peri-vaginal wound closure
Surgical oncology: Complex wound management following tumor excision
Pediatrics: Reconstruction after orthopedic or soft tissue procedures
Congenital & Pediatric Reconstruction
While Dr. Duffy does not perform craniofacial procedures such as cleft lip or palate repair, he occasionally operates on neonates and infants for other congenital or wound-healing conditions.
One notable example is his innovative approach to covering large skin defects in newborns with lumbar myelomeningocele (spina bifida).
Using superior gluteal artery perforator (SGAP) flaps, Dr. Duffy developed a successful technique to provide durable closure for these complex cases.
This groundbreaking method, co-authored with pediatric neurosurgical colleagues, was published in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in 2004.
